A bit about the cause…
When the shelter-in-place order went into effect in early March, I was beginning to get involved in the foster care system here in Los Angeles. For the tectonic shifts that many of us have experienced in our adult lives, our foster youth have felt more displaced in every way. With this knowledge in mind, each time I would sit down to play, “Blackbird” was the first thing that came to my hands and voice, and I would think of these kids amidst the music.

In the spirit of continuing to create in the quiet, and in support of some of our most vulnerable young people, I produced a cover of Paul McCartney’s beautiful tune to benefit CASA/LA. This organization improves the lives of children in the dependency system by pairing them with trained volunteer advocates who can be a turning point, a mentor, and an anchor in a life that has been disrupted. Los Angeles County has 30,000 children who have been abused or neglected who are under the jurisdiction of the Dependency Court.  CASA provides these kids with an incredible resource through their work, and I am honored to be able to support them using what I’ve got to give.

"Blackbird” will be available to stream and download this Friday via my website, with the option to donate whatever you wish. 100% of the proceeds will be given to CASA of Los Angeles to support their mission. If you or someone you know would like to match the sum, please reach out.

Massive shouts to friends, Chris Rubeo on guitar, and to Jordan Kelley and Dora Pereli who contributed their voices from home; and to my cousins, Helen Svoboda and Simon Svoboda, who contributed double bass and cello from across the seas.

As ever, we are all connected. Thank you for your support and sending you big love.
